Therapy By Design
+ What is your approach to psychotherapy?
Matthew's approach to therapy is rooted in an interpersonal lens, which involves bolstering awareness in everyday life and strengthening one's ability to consciously respond. He believes in working collaboratively with his patients to explore conscious and unconscious obstacles to growth, and support the changing of unhelpful patterns that are hard to let go of. Therapy offers a safe space and time to connect with ourselves, process difficult emotions, and initiate long-lasting change and self-improvement. Matthew believes that change is within reach and is looking forward to providing transformative support.
I incorporate a variety of modalities into my work, and I tend to focus on the here-and-now. Meaning I’ll be curious not only about what’s happening in your life between sessions but also what’s happening in the room—between you and me—during a session. I integrate psychodynamic & psychoanalytic concepts, attachment theory, and behavioral modalities in my work.
+ How much is the psychotherapy session? Do you offer a reduced rate?
My full fee is $200; per 45-minute session. I can offer a reduced rate for those seeking treatment and in need of financial accommodations.
+ WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T KEEP MY APPOINTMENT?
If you are unable to keep your appointment, please let us know at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. If you are unable to provide 24 hours notice or do not keep your appointment, a $100 fee will be charged.
+ Do you take insurance?
Like most private practitioners in New York City, I do not participate in any insurance plans, which means that I do not take insurance directly. Patients pay for their session at the beginning of each visit. Many clients have insurance plans with generous out-of-network benefits that provide reimbursement for a substantial portion of session fees. If needed, you will be supplied with the necessary documents for reimbursement filings.
+ Am I able to attend twice monthly therapy sessions?
It’s suggested a weekly commitment from the client is best; twice-monthly therapy sessions are currently not available.
+ Where do therapy sessions take place?
Currently Online
+ I would like to have online sessions; what platform do you use for the sessions?
I currently use Zoom for online sessions. It is a secure, HIPPA-compliant, cloud-based platform that has been endorsed by various professional bodies and the choice for their use based on quality, ethical considerations, and the protection of client and therapist. Downloading the program is free and is compatible with phones, tablets, and computers.
